Cemetery Drive

Once drawn to the ones hidden behind
burning shrubs, now gulping vinegar
like memories of her… There’s no cure

except to leave him alone. Took a ride
until the sunset caved behind a scraggly
horizon line, darkness looming, tangible

impassible blackness. Searching along,
where ever we’re going won’t heal
tendons blistered, eyes drifting like ghosts

floating along Cemetery Drive every night.
Our visions of each other, skeletons without
motivation sinking into a cold mountain stream

where blond reeds hide our intentions,
only tangling as we grow into our story–
Wind keeps blowing, along the front range

we listen for the signal: singing Come back
with my dreams,
too terrified to let love
go, how long will it haunt these fields…?
