Old
Downtown,
boxy streets,
cobblestone moats.

Night,
orange lamps.

Warped fence
taller than me,
not taller than you,

we land on
the other side.

Darkness
surrounding
thin cedars.

Sand-coated piano,
dropped
Spanish moss.

Tap mute keys,
wish

The piano
will play loud

as lines
in palms,
haul ghosts

out of keys…
wonders

we’re not
born with:
a spine, light
to find pianos
moaning,
lost figureheads.
