Goodbye, Sundance flower,

eyes not shining red as I thought

but with a softer tone begging
for a home in your heart,

cut from the same yellow fabric–
Reason to keep trying to sew

into each other, shouldn’t.
So we bury reminders into sand,

believing in change, red tide
to wipe away pocks created

in our bodies, keep scrubbing
silently, waiting for salt

and time to erode us, dry up
the colors of your sharpened stems….
